Happy New Year!

Happy new 2012!! A brand new year is here, how exciting!
My first illustration for this year is part of an ongoing personal project of mine that I names "What if songs are book covers?".
Inspired by some Beatles lyrics I figure out that songs are full of stories, so why not turn them into books?
I hope to make more of them really soon.

Epheriell Designs

Just right before Christmas, I have a happy news to share.
I've been featured on Epheriell Designs blog, a nice project where a lovely girl named Jess talks about design, craft, food and of course art. The whole thing is tied together with lovely photographs.

My feature it's all about my illustrated business plan, and I guess it's the perfect time of year to make plans and New Year's resolutions!

Please have a look at my feature here!

Merry Xmas!!

Even if now in Australia is sunny and warm and basically to me it doesn't look like Christmas at all, it's actually Christmas time!
In fact, I grown up in the northern part of Italy, near Swiss, where Christmas is really cold and I must admit it's very difficult to get excited when all around you scream the exact opposite of it.
But here we are, Christmas is around the corner and I think it's now time to show you the Christmas card I did a while ago! I did this at school in screen printing class and I had lot of fun doing it.

This is instead the original design done digitally in Photoshop.

I used two different layers/colors which create a third one when overlapping. Cool, uh?

As you can see in the printed version, not all the details came through... My fault, cause the design was too small (A6/A5 size), it would have worked better if it was a A4 size.

Anyway, since it's Christmas time (I really need to repeat this to myself several times every day otherwise it's hard to believe!!) I also decided to give you a little "present"!
I really want to share this amazing Idea Generator post that I found last night. It's written by the awesome illustrator Jillian Tamaki. She used to teach at Parsons (I'm not sure if she still do that) and this is a lecture she gave to her students about how she creates her work.
Interesting!! And incredible useful too.
So enjoy the article and have a incredible merry Christmas!!

Little Red Riding Hood 3

Recently I've completed my third drawing for my Little Red Riding Hood project.
With this one I also tried to put some text in, just to have an idea of what it would look like.
I don't know if I'm going to make more yet, the original project that I started at school was based on just these three pieces. Let's see how it goes!

Hire an illustrator... like me!

Hello! Yesterday I decided to boost my online presence and buy a subscription on Hire an illustrator

Here, have a look at what my page looks like, nice uh?:)

Nowadays there are a few of these online portfolios but I decided to subscribe to this one for two main reasons:
-I've already heard a few people saying they got jobs out of it!
-The subscription fee is 320 American dollar per year but you can also chose to pay 7 dollars per week, which is what I've decided to do cause I'm not that rich.

Also, they do other mailing and printing service. You can either send them your own printed postcard or they can get postcards printed for you. I might have a look at this one cause send stuff in the US for me would be really expensive.

Well, now I'm going to sit here waiting for jobs to come in!
I'll keep you posted if that happens.

Uppercase!

Yesterday something really unexpected happened to me.
I was walking around Melbourne waiting for my train. Since I needed to wait something like 30 minutes I decided to have a look at some shops around the area and I stopped at Mag Nation (for the ones who are not familiar with it, it's a shop that sells all sorts of magazines and stationery). I had a look around Then I saw the magazine Uppercase

I usually don't see this magazine around very often so I picked it up and decided to give it a look. I saw lots of time their website but never the printed magazine.
I was browsing trough the pages when I saw this...!!

This is a very very very old drawing I did ages ago (as you can see, not even my style!) and sent it to them as part of a contribution thing they were advertising on the website. The theme was pet portrait. They never got back to me so I thought they didn't like my illustration (that it took me ages to finish, btw) or they didn't pick mine amongst all the other ones. And I completely forgot about it. It was months ago. And now I've just found my image in their printed copy! Also, my image has been feature in issue 10 and the last issue printed is number 12. How did this happened without me not knowing anything?
I'm a little disappointed by the fact they didn't contact me saying they chose my image but I can't deny I'm also happy they included it in the magazine.
Anyway, another thing I keep thinking is: what were the chances I could find my illustration in a magazine browsing at random in a magazine shop?? Unbelievable!

Little Red Riding Hood 2

Lately I've been continuing working on this project of mine which is basically the tale of Little Red Riding Hood illustrated by me. It started out as a school project but I'm still doing it because I really like it. Also I think it's turning out allright.
Yesterday I finished the second illustration for it.
Please, have a look!

To be continued... :D
