Animystic

A while ago I was chosen by Light Grey Art Lab to be one of the artists for their next upcoming show called Animystic. I'm so thrilled to be part of it!

Here's the artwork I created. It took me ages to come up with it, in the end I decided to draw a llama, they're cute and wise looking!

Lepus Australis Exhibition

Early next month, I will attend the opening night of Lepus Australis, an illustration exhibition that will show the work of over 40 emerging and established local artists. 
The event has been created and organised by two very talented girls: Emma Leonard and Sally Land. 

Lots of Australian illustrators I admire will take part in this exhibition so I'm very very excited about having a piece of my work in it! I'm still working on it... but I promise to post some preview pics soon!

Also, the event will have the exhibition of one thousand origami bunnies. Craaaaaazy!

Poop Deck Character Exhibition

I feel very honoured to announce the Poop Deck Character Exhibition has been launched!

Now I am finally allowed to share the illustration I've created for it!

My Poop Deck character name is Harbor and he is part of the Redcoat suit. 

He is a ship's boy of the new generation. 

He listens to punk rock music and he's saving money to buy a kickass guitar. 

I thought it would be fun to imagine what a ship's boy would be like these days: a young and skinny lad listening to his ipod while mopping the deck. 

In order to be a 21th century fella, I also gave him an emo fringe and a pair of All Stars. 

I can't wait to see this dude printed in a card deck!!

Ammo Magazine - The Poop Deck Project

Ahoy!
Who doesn't love Ammo Magazine??

I remember I fell in love with it the very first time I stumbled on the website. Since then, I've always dreamed of being featured in it and guess what?? No, it's not what you think... It didn't happen (yet). BUT.

I've been lucky enough to be chosen as one of the 54 artists who are going to be part of the next Ammo awesomeness.
The project in question is called The Poop Deck Project and basically the two main things involve are: pirates and cards!
Yes. Extremely cool...:)

Artists all over the world have been asked to create a character with a maritime theme. These characters are going to be exposed in an exhibition.
Also (and here comes the coolest part) each character is going to be printed as one of the characters of the deck of cards.

Makes sense? If not, just watch this video which shows the printing process.

The decks are going to be available for purchase very soon from the Poop Deck and Ammo website.

Also, I need to mention that the exhibition is going be jointed with The Beer Mat Characters exhibition, organised by the amazing folks of Inkygoodness which happens to be at the same time and same place... how's that!!

Launch party is going to be 30th April at Coningsby Gallery, London from 6pm. If you happen to live there, feel free to check the facebook event and go there!!

It's going to be huge!! Don't miss it otherwise... Aaaarrrrgggghhhh!

My first ever diorama

Yesterday, I went to the opening night of True North - first Reservoir Arts Festival. 
There, I finally exhibited what I had worked on in the last month: my diorama piece inspired by the song written by Icelandic songwriter Auður. If you want to get an idea of what the project was about, please read my previous post.

As you can see this is something a bit different from what I usually do. 
I was asked to create a 3D installation piece and at first I was a bit scared and puzzled, not really having a clue of what to do.
But with the help of my artist mentor Belinda Suzette, I came up with this diorama. 
I must say I'm pretty satisfy with the finished piece... and surprisingly, it was incredibly fun to make!!

After this great experience, I've decided I will definitely make more dioramas in the future. Actually, I'm already planning to make my second one for my next exhibition in July... stay tuned!!

True North Festival

I'm very excited to announce I'll be one of the artist taking part in the very first edition of True North - Reservoir Arts Festival.
For three days, lots of events and activities will completely flood and transform the streets of Reservoir.

In particular, I'll be one of the artist taking part in the event Lost in Translation, a wonderful project that could be described as "a visual arts version of the ancient game "Chinese Whispers" (cit. Belinda Suzette).

In a project that seeks to understand the language of different art forms, emerging and established artists speak of Reservoir and their ideas about the truth of the North. The short story “In The Rezz” by Stella Glorie kicks us off. This story is then passed on to artist Keith McDougall (mentored by Bernard Caleo) to create a comic. Local songwriter Auður (mentored by Andrea Keller), will then take this cartoon and turn it into a song. Finally, visual artist Laura Wood (mentored by Belinda Suzette) will turn the song into something visually awesome.

Launch exhibition

Last Friday I went to the opening night of Launch, an exhibition that I'm taking part in.
The turn out was pretty good and the work exposed was really varied.

The exhibition is on until the 10th March, so if you missed the opening you still have some time to head there and see some art!:)

Launch 2013

I'm quite excited to announce I've been invited to be part of LAUNCH.

"Each year, LAUNCH brings together a group of recent graduates from universities around Melbourne. Always a highlight of the year's exhibition calendar, LAUNCH is a survey of some of the year's most dynamic, diverse and insightful new work"

Ten emerging artists will exhibit their best and latest work. Expect to see a very eclectic and diverse range of style and disciplines!

The artists taking part in the event are Helen Borowski, Anna Trundle, Michele Donegan, Danny Digby, Felicity Why, Lauren Young, Lucinda Anderwartha, Alex Purchase, Nina Magee and myself.

The opening night will be held at Brunswick Arts Space Friday 22nd Feb from 6 to 9pm.
The exhibition will run from the 23rd to the 10th March.

I'm exhibiting a few prints showing a mix of past and new works. They're all going to be on sale so if you're from Melbourne, don't lose the opportunity to see this awesome event!;)
Please join me on the opening night or come over to have a look anytime until March 10th from Thursday to Sunday.

9x5 - Carnivale

This is my piece for this year 9x5, an exhibition held annually by Illustrators Australia.
This time the theme was "Carnivale" and I've tried to interprete it my way, trying to think a bit out of the box.
However, I'm not particularly happy with this piece. I hope I could have done more with the background...

The opening night will be held Friday 9th November at SPACE 39, Little Collins st., Melbourne. from 6pm. All the artworks will be available for sale thru a silent auction on the night.

ILLUSTRE 2012

Hello peeps! At the end of this month my diploma of illustration course is organising a graduation show.
The show is called ILLUSTRE and with more 28 artists and more than 90 pieces of work, the exhibition is going to be HUGE and AMAZING!

This is Melbourne

Earlier this year I posted about "This is Melbourne", an exhibition organised by Pesky .
Some days ago I attended the launch and it was great! I love launches since I get to meet lots of wonderful artists!

Anyway, here below is my piece for the exhibition (click to enlarge!). It is a limited edition A3 print available for $100.00.

This is Melbourne

In a month time I'll be taking part in a lovely exhibition called "This is Melbourne".

'This Is Melbourne' is an exhibition of limited edition prints by some of Melbourne's finest creative professionals. All artwork will be for sale! The exhibition opens from 6pm-8pm on Wednesday 26th September. Please come along if you're in Melbourne!

Illustre 2012

Later in the year I'll be taking part in an exhibition called Illustre 2012.
It's a graduate exhibition that second year students at my Illustration school have to show off the work done during the year.
It's a pretty big event happening in a big gallery in Prahran, Melbourne.

We did a competition for choosing the logo of the even and my entry was lucky enough to be the chosen one!
I will post more about this event later in the year. For now, stay tuned.

A3 Show 2012

Every year in June, Illustrators Australia organises a show where with prints and originals on sale. No theme or rules, only requirement: the work has to be A3. Easy peasy!
This is the first time I take part in this event and I can't wait to see if my print is going to sell...

To enter the show I've decided to use this illustration below because I think it's my most successful illustration so far. I went to get a print done on some beautiful archival fancy paper (so beautiful!!) and now it's going to be on sale. YAY!
I'm definitely thinking about making more prints in the very near future, so in case someone out there would like a print of my work just SHOUT!:) I accept commissions.

SCBWI 2012 Illustrators Showcase

Recently I've been working on promoting myself a bit.
I've decided to take part in the SCBWI 2012 Illustrators Showcase that will be held next 29th June in Sydney, part of the 4th International SCBWI Australia & New Zealand Conference.
Unfortunately I won't be able to attend the conference but instead I'll have the opportunity to exhibit my portfolio. A private viewing day will be held where publishers, editors and art directors will be invited to vision illustrator's portfolios.
To me it seemed like a great opportunity to get the attention of several publishers in just one shot! Following the private viewing, the exhibition will be open to all conference attendees to join in and enjoy the artwork.

COW International Design Festival

A month ago I entered an illustration exhibition called COW International Design Festival.
It's a huge exhibition organised in Ukraine dedicated to illustration and design. To enter is free and this year 96 artists are taking part at the event... I'm the only one representing Australia!:)
It's actually a competition as well so there will be winners and prizes... One of the jury member is the founder of 3x3!!
I saw some of the entry on the facebook page and some of them are just FABULOUS so I seriously doubly I could win something... but, how it's said, you never know!

The Grid

Finally I can talk about the exhibition my class at school will have for the end of the year. I was waiting for the flyer to be published and here it is


The chosen theme is "The Grid" and basically the city in general.
This is the artwork I did, something a bit nature inspired.

What a day!

What a day yesterday!
So many things happened in just one day that I felt I couldn't even be able to appreciate them properly all at once.
First of all in the morning I started to work on a new project.
British magazine Stylist has started a competition where readers can submit their illustrated cover and the winner will see his own artwork on the 100th issue. The theme is celebration and I've decided to try. Yay! Sounds exciting. To read more just follow this link

Then in the afternoon I went to the Australian Academy of Design here in Melbourne to see a talk given by Shaun Tan. And how nice! He is such a good speaker and you could tell by listening to how he speaks about illustration that he is such an honest artist.
I was amazed by his talk I decided to bought a book and I've got it signed!

After that, I went to the Blue Tile Lounge, a little bar in the northern suburbs of Melbourne, where my friend and classmate Donna last week organized a little exhibition with some of the screen print work we did at school.

IA 9x5 Exhibition

Exciting news!
Illustrators Australia is going to held an exhibition which I'll take part in!

Tonight I went to the Chisholm second year graduation exhibition held at 1000 pound bend in Melbourne.
To tell the truth it wasn't an amazing experience, actually I was a little disappoint. I was expecting a higher level of illustration but
There were some nice and beautiful stuff, tho.
