9x5 winner!

Some while ago I posted about an exhibition organized by Illustrators Australia called 9x5 that I was going to take part in.
Well, the event included also a competition amongst the exhibited pieces and I won the fist prize in the students section! YAY!
Everybody had to paint on a piece of wood sized 9x5 about the theme "rapture".
I did mine as a screen print and acrylic and this is the piece.

New beginnings

In these last few weeks I was incredibly busy and I didn't have the time to update the blog with all the things that were happening... I'll try to post about all the stuff I've done little by little in the next few days.

First of all, I've just finished my first year of illustration course! I'm very satisfied of the results, I feel like I've learned a lot. Hopefully next year is going to be even better!

Second of all, these ones below are drawings I did for a school project but that I particularly care about cause I would like to develop them further more.
As you can see they are some illustrations of Little Red Riding Hood book and the aim I have in mind is to do the whole story. This is going to be the project I'm going to work in my holidays... wish me luck!:)

Wires

Lately I'm working A LOT, that's why I'm not updating often. Need to finish a lot of stuff cause end of school year is close. This is my last piece. Please don't look at the text too much... I realized later on that was wrong... oops!

Improvements

I usually don't post about work school work, but this time I really put some effort in it! Also, I can say this is my first watercolor piece that turned out as it was supposed to. Eventually, I'm getting there... yay!

The Grid

Finally I can talk about the exhibition my class at school will have for the end of the year. I was waiting for the flyer to be published and here it is


The chosen theme is "The Grid" and basically the city in general.
This is the artwork I did, something a bit nature inspired.

THe iNCIPIT

Today I've done another illustration for THe iNCIPIT.
This was was a very fun one to do and I'm pretty happy of the result.
Also, I'm starting getting a little bit more painterly, which I see like a good sign!

Stylist cover

Recently I did this illustration for the Stylist 100th issue cover competition.
Once I came up with the concept, it took me ages to illustrate it because I couldn't paint anything that looked as a peacock's tail and a firework at the same time. This is the best I did. I like it so far...!

They draw and travel

Finally yesterday I finished this project I meant to do ages ago.
It didn't take me long, I thing getting started took me longer!
Anyway, this is my map for the They draw and travel project. I decided to do a map of Melbourne with my favorite restaurants on it. I'm quite happy with the result!

What a day!

What a day yesterday!
So many things happened in just one day that I felt I couldn't even be able to appreciate them properly all at once.
First of all in the morning I started to work on a new project.
British magazine Stylist has started a competition where readers can submit their illustrated cover and the winner will see his own artwork on the 100th issue. The theme is celebration and I've decided to try. Yay! Sounds exciting. To read more just follow this link

Then in the afternoon I went to the Australian Academy of Design here in Melbourne to see a talk given by Shaun Tan. And how nice! He is such a good speaker and you could tell by listening to how he speaks about illustration that he is such an honest artist.
I was amazed by his talk I decided to bought a book and I've got it signed!

After that, I went to the Blue Tile Lounge, a little bar in the northern suburbs of Melbourne, where my friend and classmate Donna last week organized a little exhibition with some of the screen print work we did at school.

IA 9x5 Exhibition

Exciting news!
Illustrators Australia is going to held an exhibition which I'll take part in!

A little bit of Shameless Promotion

Tonight I went to the Chisholm second year graduation exhibition held at 1000 pound bend in Melbourne.
To tell the truth it wasn't an amazing experience, actually I was a little disappoint. I was expecting a higher level of illustration but
There were some nice and beautiful stuff, tho.

The dark art of pricing

Illustrator and designer Jessica Hische recently wrote an awesome post on her blog with tips and thoughts about pricing art jobs.
It is definitely something that every freelance artist should read.

She talks about pros and cons of hourly rates, and the importance of licensing. She also gives practical examples and that's why I love this article.
